Resumen

To the Editor: In Peru, most rural homes do not have access to electricity, water, or sewage networks (1), and they use traditional biomass stoves, which can cause respiratory diseases (2). The objective of this study was to determine whether rural electrification has an effect on respiratory symptoms. Thus, we evaluated the database of the Rural Household Energy Use Survey 2013. The questionnaire had 172 items, which included demographic characteristics, economic indicators, and health questions focusing on whether the participants feel healthy or sick, whether they usually cough, and if so, for how long
