Abstract

Youth unemployment in Spain soared to one of the highest rates in the world during the financial crisis. This paper explores the characteristics of youth employment in Spain between 2006 and 2012 from the perspective of occupational segregation. It finds that occupational segregation of youth rose over this period, and underlines the vulnerability of young people concentrated in certain occupations to cyclical changes in the economy. It offers some solutions to generate more and better Jobs for young people in Spain and around the world.
