Professor Emeritus of Economics at Universidad del Pacífico. He teaches in the Department of Economics and the Graduate School at Universidad del Pacífico. He was a professor in the MBA program at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico.
He holds an M.A. in Economics from The University of Chicago (USA), a Master's degree in Economics from Universidad Católica de Chile and a licenciatura in Economics from Universidad del Pacífico. He is the author of several books and articles in the areas of his interest. He was Minister of State in the Ministry of Labor and Social Promotion, President of the Commission for the Promotion of Private Investment (COPRI), and Minister of State in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was Vice Minister of Integration at the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Integration. He served as Vice President of Administration and Systems of the Andean Development Corporation (CAF), Venezuela. He served as Dean of the School of Economics at Universidad del Pacífico for three periods. He was Dean of the Colegio de Economistas de Lima for two periods. He is honorary professor at several universities in the country such as San Agustín de Arequipa, Universidad Privada del Norte, among others. He was president of AFP El Roble and of the Fondo de Seguro de Depósitos de las Coopacs de la Fenacrep. He is currently a director in various private companies and public institutions. He was awarded in several academic years as the Best Evaluated Professor of the Department of Economics and the Graduate School of the Universidad del Pacífico. He also received an outstanding teaching evaluation from ITESM, Mexico, 2005.
In October 2010, he was awarded the Decoration for Professional Merit by the Colegio de Economistas de Lima, Peru. In April 2023, he received the Doctor Honoris Causa recognition awarded by the Colegio Iberoamericano de Doctores. And the "Quipucamayoc" recognition by the Colegio de Economistas de Junín. Area of expertise: Monetary and banking economics, economic policy, labor economics.
