Resumen

A pesar de que Perú es uno de los principales productores de cobre a nivel mundial, la industria nacional aún no ha aprovechado completamente el potencial que ofrece la explotación de esta materia prima. Este artículo explora las oportunidades y desafíos que enfrentan los proveedores peruanos en su inserción en la cadena de valor global de la minería. Nuestro análisis se basa en un enfoque de métodos mixtos, combinando fuentes primarias y secundarias cuantitativas y cualitativas, incluyendo entrevistas semiestructuradas con actores clave del sector minero peruano. Nuestros hallazgos sugieren que la débil presencia de proveedores peruanos en un sector dominado por unas pocas empresas extranjeras se debe a las dinámicas globales de la industria, así como a las capacidades subdesarrolladas de las empresas locales que operan en un entorno institucional local frágil. Sin embargo, sus oportunidades de inserción se encuentran principalmente en áreas donde se requieren nuevas soluciones, lo que exige una capacidad innovadora por parte de los proveedores.
