Resumen

El artículo analiza la trayectoria comercial de los inmigrantes chinos y palestinos, las comunidades más grandes en las ciudades de Arequipa y Moquegua en el sur de Perú. Aunque no formaban parte de proyectos de inmigración "deseados" y enfrentaban prejuicios y hostilidades, estos inmigrantes se integraron significativamente en las economías regional y nacional. El artículo se basa en el análisis cualitativo de un conjunto heterogéneo de fuentes primarias de archivos, muchas de las cuales no se habían estudiado antes. Estas fuentes incluyen registros de inmigración hasta 1931, archivos notariales e informes de prensa de ambas ciudades. Este trabajo contribuye a los estudios de migración y negocios desde dos enfoques: la migración indeseable y el papel de los migrantes en la formación del sistema comercial moderno de los países de la región.
