Resumen
This dissertation examines challenges to the extension of democracy in contemporary Latin America. It does so through a case study of the efforts of the Peruvian Aprista Party (APRA), and the marxist left, to forge alternative democratic left projects in Peru over the past fifteen years, in a context of transition from military to civilian rule.
