Ritual object, funerary offering, work of art: The place of the Pre-Columbian past in the history of art in Peru

Resumen

El debate sobre si los objetos precolombinos deben estudiarse desde la disciplina de la historia del arte o desde la arqueología ha sido objeto de diversas investigaciones en las últimas décadas. El presente ensayo reflexiona sobre este debate en el contexto de la curaduría en el Museo de Arte de Lima (Perú). Presenta ejemplos de exhibiciones temporales y permanentes recientes, enfocándose en la creación de nuevas narrativas y formas de compartir el pasado, derivadas del estudio de los propios objetos y situándolos en un contexto más amplio de investigación arqueológica actualizada. El artículo concluye proponiendo una nueva forma de curaduría que demuestra que la coexistencia de ambas disciplinas no solo es posible, sino necesaria.
