Abstract

Mental health problems of persons deprived of liberty are an object of interest from the perspective of Human Rights, Criminology and Public Health. Most of the literature on the subject is produced in North America and Europe, and an important part of it is referred to measurements in terms of prevalence of diseases. The aim of this article is to review scientific literature, compiled between the years 2000-2018, as well as the advances and particularities for the development of such
studies in Latin America; also contributing to the pending agenda of improving health policies at Latin American prisons.
