Latin America faces severe economic and social problems. In this context, the private business sector gradually undertakes a leading role in the articulation of efforts between the different social actors, for the purpose of contributing to the sustainable development of the region. These efforts become evident through social initiatives developed within the framework of socially responsible management. The present article explores some of the key business capacities identified in previous research projects, that have been observed in Latin American firms that carry out programs in this area. From there on, the article reflects about the presence of these capacities in a sample of Peruvian businesses that stand out locally because of the implementation of innovative social initiatives.
