Abstract
Objective: This work aims to describe and analyze, focusing on the late 20th century and early 21st century, the internal and external challenges faced by a travel operator in Peru: Lima Tours, which has been and continues to be significant in the local market. Method: The methodology adopted for this research is qualitative, with a historical approach. It is based on interviews with those involved, as well as a review of various primary sources (newspapers, magazines, and reports from the period) and secondary sources (such as books and articles). These sources, analyzed historically, have enabled the drafting of the text according to the objectives set. Results and Discussion: During a period of tourism development and the rise of major travel wholesalers worldwide, this study examines the importance of the economic crisis and political violence in Peru at the end of the last century, as well as the management problems faced by the family-owned business. It outlines the various strategies developed to overcome these difficulties and explores the key factors that prevented bankruptcy and led to the company's consolidation. Originality/Value: The research may contribute to outlining certain management characteristics developed by Peruvian tourism companies in the context ofsocial crisis, political violence, market transformations, and generational change.
