Abstract
This work aims to describe and analyze, for the second half of the 20th century, the birth, growth, and consolidation of a travel operator in Peru: Lima Tours, which has dominated and continues to dominate the local market. It studies the birth of the company, at a time when Latin American tour operators and travel agencies were emerging; it presents the strategies developed for its growth; and it examines the main challenges it faced throughout the study period, until its consolidation. The research can contribute to establishing some characteristics developed by Peruvian and Latin American tourism companies, in the context of the emergence of tourism activity, global and technological changes in the sector, as well as the limitations they showed. Keywords: Travel agency, Wholesaler, Tour operator, Peru, Inbound tourism.
