Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present an unpublished document: «Relation made by the nuns of the convent of Santa Catharina de Sena in the city of San Francisco de Quito, province of Peru, in the Indies», guarded by the Bartolomé March Library in Palma de Mallorca. The report succinctly describes a case that caused enormous scandal in 1679: the flee of the nuns from the convent of Saint Catherine of Siena in Quito to place themselves under the protection of ordinary justice and thus avoid continuing to be mistreated by the prior of the order of the Preachers of Quito. Now, the relevance of the document lies in the fact that it helps clear up a doubt that King Charles II had regarding who sent the news of the Quito scandal to Pope Clement X.
