Abstract
In the last five years Peruvian organizations that combine social mission (to solve en-vironmental or social problems) with a market orientation are more visible. Thus, two are the objectives of this study: First, to understand the systemic conditions that have contributed to this phenomenon; second, to highlight the primary characteristics of such organizations. The paper contextualizes social and economic circumstances that enabled the gradual consolidation of a Peruvian social enterprise ecosystem. In addition, it offers a descriptive analysis of data collected from 460 social entrepreneurs operating in Lima. Topics such as mission, activities, human capital and operational models are discussed. The information allows an initial overview of the phenomenon of social entrepreneurship in Lima in relation to the overall context analyzed.
