Abstract
This book addresses the principles, concepts, and main institutions of penitentiary law from a legal and criminological perspective. Additionally, it discusses some issues and challenges in our penitentiary system, such as the purposes and implementation of custodial sentences through penitentiary treatment or the granting of benefits, alternatives to imprisonment, and "governance" in penitentiary management, among others.
