Abstract

In the study of the slow and laborious formation of rural proletariat in Peru from the mid-twentieth century, there are two clearly differentiated stages (even though the limits between them are not precise); during the century before World War II the dominant issue was the "labor shortage"; in recent years, on the other hand, this problem desappears and emerges the "excess labor". The objective sought is to look more closely to the problem of the oversupply of rural labor, trying to unravel the mechanisms that governs it in the Peruvian agriculture
