Researcher at the Center for China and Asia Pacific Studies at Universidad del Pacifico. His research focuses on economic infrastructure (port networks, industrial parks, special economic zones) and investment attraction, particularly in Asia and Latin America. Since 2018, he has been studying the opportunities and risks posed by the future port of Chancay in Peru, South America, within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. He has published his work with the University of Pittsburgh Press and the Consortium of Economic and Social Research (CIES). He has just published a policy paper on how port-city models in China, Thailand, and Malaysia can offer lessons for developing Industry 4.0 in the economic corridors linked to the port of Chancay. Omar is an economist and a lecturer at Universidad del Pacifico. In his role as a public servant, he worked at the Ministry of Economy and Finance for seven years. He was awarded a Chevening Scholarship for an MSc in Mega Infrastructure Projects at the Bartlett School, University College London, and holds an MSc in Social Policy from the London School of Economics. He is currently a PhD candidate in Environmental Sciences at the National University of San Marcos. Additionally, he is frequently consulted by national and international media outlets, such as Wall Street Journal, the South China Morning Post, BBC, Nikkei Asia, Le Figaro, etc.
