Overview
Professional profile
Dr. Chavez Sarmiento is a Full Professor in the Academic Department of Economics and a member of the Research Center at the Universidad del Pacífico. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), a Magister of Science in Applied Mathematics from the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (Peru), and a Bachelor of Science from the same university.
He has completed two postdoctoral stays: one at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte (Brazil) and another at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro jointly with the company Petrobras (Brazil).
Dr. Chavez has further experience in multidisciplinary work and is currently involved in the development of applied projects in this area. His mathematics research focuses on the study of emergent properties at the limit of stochastic processes, particularly the phenomenon of meta-stability.
Area of specialization:
Probability, stochastic processes, Markov processes, meta-stability, and stochastic optimization.
