Professional profile

Full Professor at the Department of Social and Political Sciences, and member of the Universidad del Pacífico Research Center. He is a Doctor of Education (EdD) and a Master of Arts in Social and Political Thought; both degrees were obtained at the University of Sussex (UK). He also holds a Bachelor's degree and a Licentiate (professional license) in Sociology from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. He served as Director of Publications of the Peruvian Educational Research Society (period 2017-2019) and, consequently, as the Peruvian Journal of Educational Research editor. He has been a member of the Editorial Committee of the International Review of Education (2015-2022), and President of the Peruvian National Council of Education (2017-2020). Between 2013 and 2016 he was a Non-resident Fellow of the Brookings Institution (Washington, D.C). Between 2001 and 2012 he worked as a UNESCO official where he led the program on the measurement of learning achievement at its Institute of Statistics. Previously, he worked in the Peruvian civil service as well as in academic institutions. His research interests are linked to educational policy and, currently, he is working on the linkage between linguistic competence and the development of abstract thought paying particular attention to endorsing universal values.
